"Grasping City LightsˇEFocusing Nature's Beauty", the third-phase exhibition under the art exploration project "ArtAlive@Park 2012", opened today (November 9) at the Stanley Promenade. The works on display combine the beauty of art with nature.
Officiating at the opening party were the Assistant Director (Heritage and Museums) of Leisure and Cultural Services, Dr Louis Ng; the Special Advisor to the President of City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Dr Ko Law Yin-lan; the Chairman of Southern District Council, Mr Chu Ching-hong; artist Mr Danny Lee; the Executive Director of Hulu Culture, Ms Iman Fok; and the Chief Curator of the Art Promotion Office (APO), Dr Lesley Lau.
"ArtAlive@Park 2012" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and organised by the APO. Hulu Culture, a non-profit organisation promoting local culture, was invited to be the curatorial collaborator in the project. The project has come to the last phase of its exhibition series. The first exhibition was held at the Tsim Sha Tsui East Waterfront Podium Garden from March to May this year, and the second exhibition was held at the Tai Po Waterfront Park from July to September.
The third phase of the project, "Grasping City LightsˇEFocusing Nature's Beauty", will run until January 26 next year at the Stanley Promenade. The four showcased artworks were created by students of the Division of Building Science and Technology at CityU. Using light as their theme, the students made use of colour, light and shadows as well as the particular characteristics of the Stanley Promenade in their artworks.
The artworks on display include "The Flickering", created with mirror chrome vinyl to mimic the glittering reflections of light flowing over the surface of the sea. The idea of "Floating Light", created with plexiglass, came from the inspiration of ripples on the sea surface. Created with steel and soft PVC sheets, "Painting with Light" uses the various properties of light to depict the colourful world. Finally, "Twilight", with different heights of bamboo, combines the beauty of the city's buildings and the natural vista of Stanley Bay.
The LCSD has also invited Don't Believe in Style, Studio de Dimension de Tofu, Lung and Lam Company Limited, Horizonte, Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong, Hiromi Company and others to offer colourful programmes and activities during the exhibition period. Programmes include "Combustive Percussion" led by Dr Lung Heung-wing; an a cappella performance, "Musika Sans Fronteras", by Orange; "Joyful Dance Fusion", by a group of talented artists with disabilities; the light painting workshop "Dreams Light Up the Sky", which involves the use of digital cameras; "A Dialogue with Art", which interprets artworks on display by way of drama; and the motion graphic presentation "Night of a thousand stars". In addition, free guided tours will be available during the exhibition period to take visitors on a leisurely tour of the promenade and introduce to them the thinking behind the creation of each work of art.
In addition, the special programme collaborator Playright Children's Play Association has come up with two family programmes. "Role Play Fun with Old Industries" will present interactive games based on the old industries of the 1960s and 1970s in Hong Kong, thereby letting children act as masters of industry and allowing them to experience the amazing skills of these old industries. "Fun of Childhood" will recreate daily scenes from the past in Hong Kong, encouraging parents to join in and share their stories with their kids.
