Events in Switzerland to showcase HKSAR as China's global financial centre and Asia's premier asset management hub
**********************************************************

The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau announced today (November 9) that it is hosting a series of events in Switzerland next week to continue raising the profile of Hong Kong as a leading offshore Renminbi (RMB) centre and an international asset management hub. The series of events is supported by Invest Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC).

The roadshow will run in Geneva, Lugano and Zurich from November 13 to 15. Speakers will include the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan; the Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Simon Galpin; the Executive Director (Monetary Management) of the HKMA, Mr Edmond Lau; and the Senior Director, Policy, China and Investment Products of the SFC, Ms Christina Choi.

Professor Chan said, "Hong Kong has established itself as a premier asset management centre in Asia. Our unique position as a gateway to Mainland China can help overseas managers in their search for investment opportunities as well as access to the country's increasing wealth.

"Europe is an important exporter of financial services and participant in our capital market. There is room for European financial institutions to play an even bigger role in our markets as we grow as China's global financial centre and its testing ground for RMB convertibility."

The Swiss roadshow forms part of an ongoing global campaign which has included similar events previously held in cities such as London and New York.

The discussions in particular will look at the latest policy and regulatory measures facilitating the issuance of RMB fixed income assets and funds in Hong Kong. Speakers from the Swiss asset management sector will also share their experiences in serving high net worth individuals in Mainland China and Hong Kong.
