Applications invited for Sponsorship Scheme on Development of Digital Inclusion Mobile Applications
***********************************************************

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) invites applications for funding support under the Sponsorship Scheme on Development of Digital Inclusion Mobile Applications starting from today (October 31).

The one-off sponsorship scheme aims to encourage the development of mobile applications that can improve the quality of life of underprivileged groups through the use of mobile applications, including mobile websites. The maximum amount of funding support for each selected project will be $500,000 or 90 per cent of the total project cost, whichever is the less.

"The Government is committed to promoting the use of information and communications technology (ICT) among underprivileged groups. Leveraging the increasing popularity and user-friendly interface of mobile devices, the Scheme seeks to facilitate underprivileged groups to enjoy the benefits and convenience brought about by advancement in ICT," a spokesman for OGCIO said.

"We will select three 'Best Digital Inclusion Mobile Applications' from the funded projects upon completion of the application development. The project winners will receive gold, silver and bronze prizes with cash award of $30,000, $20,000 and $10,000 respectively," the spokesman added.

All local non-profit organisations providing welfare services, IT professional bodies or trade associations are welcome to submit proposals under the Scheme.  The application deadline is December 31, 2012. A briefing for interested organisations will be conducted on November 15, 2012. The application form and relevant information are available at OGCIO's website:
