InnoTech Month 2012 to promote culture of innovation and technology (with photos/video)
*********************************************************

The Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) today (October 31) launched InnoTech Month 2012, which involves a range of activities to promote innovation and technology culture in the community.

Organised by the ITC with the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation as campaign partners, InnoTech Month 2012 runs from today to December 8 and features an array of programmes including a roadshow, workshops, a large-scale carnival, exhibitions and industry conferences. The event aims to offer members of the public an opportunity to see for themselves the achievements of innovation and technology in Hong Kong, and to provide a communication platform for the industry to facilitate its long-term development.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of InnoTech Month 2012, the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Miss Janet Wong, said, "The ITC is committed to promoting a culture of innovation and technology in Hong Kong. The Commission has organised various science education and publicity programmes to encourage support for innovation and technology from different stakeholders, contributing to the development of a knowledge-based economy in Hong Kong."

The ITC inaugurated the annual Innovation Festival in 2005, and in 2010 it was renamed as InnoTech Month and extended to become a month-long event. The mega event has been well received by the public, academia and industries, and attracted a record high of 230,000 participants last year, Miss Wong said.

Accompanying the launch of this year's InnoTech Month, a three-day roadshow will be held starting from today at Olympian City 2, at which the winning entries of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2012 will be on display, in conjunction with about 25 workshops.

Another highlight, the InnoCarnival, will be staged at Hong Kong Science Park from November 3 to 11. The nine-day event carries three main themes, namely Life Science, Green Technology and Information and Communication Technology, with more than 60 organisations setting up some 80 booths or pavilions to showcase their latest research achievements.

Members of the public are invited to attend. Admission to the roadshow and InnoCarnival is free of charge.
