SFH to visit Guangzhou and Shenzhen

     The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, will begin a two-day visit to Guangzhou and Shenzhen tomorrow (October 29) to strengthen ties and hold meetings with the relevant Mainland authorities on various issues including medical and health care, Chinese medicine, food supply and food safety.

     On his arrival in Guangzhou, Dr Ko will call on the Director-General of the Health Department of Guangdong Province, Professor Yao Zhibin, to exchange views on health and medical issues between the two sides. In the afternoon, Dr Ko will visit the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine to learn about its operation. He will also meet the Director of the Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Ms Li Yanhui, to forge closer co-operation and exchange between the two places on food safety as well as inspection and quarantine.

     Dr Ko will leave for Shenzhen on the morning of October 30 to call on the Director General of the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Mr Liu Shengli, and visit the Bureau's testing laboratory to learn about the latest facilities for inspection and quarantine of food supplied to Hong Kong. Before returning to Hong Kong in the afternoon, Dr Ko will tour the University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital.

     Joining Dr Ko on the visit will be the Permanent Secretary for Food and Health (Food), Mrs Marion Lai, and the Director of Health, Dr Constance Chan.
