Commissioners inspect vessels involved in collision (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Commission of Inquiry into the Collision of Vessels near Lamma Island:

     Mr Justice Michael Lunn, Chairman and Commissioner, and Mr Benjamin Tang, Commissioner, inspected the two vessels involved in the collision this afternoon, after the appointment of the  Commission of Inquiry into the Collision of Vessels near Lamma Island was published in the Gazette today (October 26).

     Mr Justice Lunn and Mr Tang inspected "Lamma IV" at the Government Dockyard at Stonecutters Island and "Sea Smooth" moored at the New Yau Ma Tei Typhoon Shelter this afternoon to gain a better understanding of the condition of the vessels.

     Meanwhile, the Commission Secretariat has set up a website (www.coi-lamma.gov.hk/eng/) for dissemination of information about the inquiry to the public and easy communication with the interested parties.

     The Commission of Inquiry was appointed by the Chief Executive in Council under the Commissions of Inquiry Ordinance (Cap. 86) on October 22, 2012, to inquire into the facts and circumstances leading to and surrounding the collision of the two vessels that took place near Lamma Island, Hong Kong, on October 1, 2012.

     The Commission is expected to report to the Chief Executive within six months from the date of appointment or such time as the Chief Executive in Council may allow.
