CS on Kai Tak sports complex (with video)
*****************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, at a media session at the lobby of the West Wing, Central Government Offices, Tamar, today (October 26):

Reporter: Secretary, does the Government have any intention at all to test public response to the recent speculation towards the Kai Tak complex? And now that the public does not accept the speculation or whatsoever and now you are trying to dismiss the ¡K

Chief Secretary for Administration: No, not at all. There has been absolutely no intention for the Government to prematurely disclose any information for the purpose of testing the water as you have suggested. It is only right for the Government to consider all options and only when we are ready in all respects, having balanced the pros and cons and so on before we will formally trigger the public consultation. It is much regretted that there has been so much speculation and different ideas being expressed on the Kai Tak Development in so as far as the multi-purpose sports complex is concerned. The purpose of this media session is for me, together with the two relevant bureau heads, the Secretary for Home Affairs, in charge of Hong Kong's sports policy, and the Secretary for Development, in charge of the Kai Tak Development, for the three of us to tell you jointly that yes, there has been some very preliminary conceptual considerations or explorations of the optimal land use of Kai Tak, but we have never disclosed an alternative for Kai Tak development for the purpose of testing public opinion.
