DH launches sub-directory of Chinese medicine practitioners under Primary Care Directory
************************************************************

A spokesman for the Department of Health (DH) said that the Primary Care Directory (the Directory) has been further enhanced with the launch of the Chinese medicine practitioners (CMP) sub-directory today (October 25) as part of the Government's continuous efforts to promote primary care in Hong Kong.

The Directory (www.pcdirectory.gov.hk), a web-based database providing personal and practice information of primary healthcare professionals, was launched in April 2011 and is being developed in phases. To date, about 1,200 registered doctors and 300 dentists have enrolled in the respective sub-directories. With the launch of the CMP sub-directory, personal and practice information of more than 1,100 CMPs have been added to the Directory on top of the information provided by the doctor and dentist sub-directories.

"The Directory aims at helping the public to search for their own primary care providers as well as assist the co-ordination of different primary care providers functioning as multi-disciplinary teams to provide more comprehensive primary care services," the spokesman explained.

"Registered doctors, dentists and practising CMPs in Hong Kong who are committed to the provision of directly accessible, comprehensive, continuing, co-ordinated and person-centred primary care services are eligible for enrolment in the Directory," said the spokesman.

The Directory is equipped with a search function which enables the public to seek for a primary care provider based on their own needs, such as clinic location, opening hours, services provided, language or dialect, participation in primary care enhancement programmes (such as the Health Care Voucher Scheme) and so on.

"Members of the public are encouraged to visit this informative and user-friendly Directory to find a family doctor, dentist or CMP that suits their needs for better health," the spokesman said.

For more information on primary care and relevant initiatives, the public may visit the website of the Primary Care Office of the DH (www.pco.gov.hk).
