The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, said today (October 18) that he is very concerned about the suspected theft of three notebook computers at the Immigration Department's Airport control point.
He said, "I understood that the Immigration Department has reported the case to the Police and notified the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data of the data breach. The department has implemented a series of measures to strengthen the security of the concerned computer system and reminded its frontline staff to strictly adhere to the departmental guidelines on system security and protection of personal data.
"I have instructed the Immigration Department to fully co-operate with the Police in their investigation, and set up a task force immediately to conduct a comprehensive review of the security position of all mobile devices with personal data. The task force will make recommendations to ensure that similar incidents will not happen in the future. The Immigration Department will consult the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data during the review," he added.
