Appointments to Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board

     The Government announced today (October 12) appointments to the Travel Industry Compensation Fund Management Board (TICFMB).

     Mr Kevin Lam Sze-cay has been appointed as Chairman, and Ms Michelle Ip Mei-ho has been re-appointed as a member for terms of two years with effect from October 15, 2012.

     "We are grateful to the retiring Chairman, Mr Ignatius Chan Tze-ching, for his excellent service to the TICFMB. During his chairmanship, Mr Chan has led the TICFMB very well. The TICFMB has effectively discharged its statutory duties in protecting the interest of outbound travellers," a Government spokesman said.

     "In the past five years, the newly appointed Chairman, Mr Kevin Lam, who worked as a member of the TICFMB and the Chairman of its Investment Committee, has made invaluable contributions to the Board. We look forward to working with him again to further strengthen the protection of outbound travellers," the spokesman added.

     The TICFMB is a statutory body established under the Travel Agents Ordinance (Chapter 218). The TICFMB holds, manages and applies the Travel Industry Compensation Fund which provides ex gratia payment to outbound groups or package travellers who suffer loss in the event of default by travel agents and to group travellers who sustain injuries or death in accidents whilst travelling abroad.

     The composition of the TICFMB, with effect from October 15, 2012 is as follows:
