**********************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (October 11) reminded the public that the completion of the tram track renewal works on the section of Johnston Road westbound between Amoy Street and Swatow Street will be advanced to 10am next Tuesday (October 16). The next stage of tram track renewal works will be carried out on the section of Johnston Road westbound between Swatow Street and Tai Wong Street East. Special traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented on that road section from 10.30am next Tuesday to 10.30am on October 26 (Friday) accordingly.

The special traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

(1) Special traffic arrangements

* The section of Johnston Road westbound between Swatow Street and Tai Wong Street East will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except for trams. As vehicles cannot access Admiralty and Central via Johnston Road westbound, motorists heading for Admiralty and Central may travel via Hennessy Road westbound or Gloucester Road westbound.

* The section of Johnston Road westbound between Tai Wo Street and Swatow Street will be temporarily closed to vehicles exceeding 7 metres in length.

(2) Special transport arrangements

* The tram stop on Johnston Road westbound near Amoy Street will be relocated forward by about 30 metres to Johnston Road westbound near Swatow Street.

* The Wan Chai-bound green minibus (GMB) route No. 4B (Aberdeen (Shek Pai Wan) - Wan Chai (Circular)) will be diverted via Wan Chai Road, Fleming Road, Lockhart Road westbound, Fenwick Street southbound and Johnston Road eastbound before resuming its original routeing on Ship Street.

* The Wan Chai-bound GMB route No. 35M (Aberdeen (Shek Pai Wan) - Wan Chai (Johnston Road)) will be diverted via Queen's Road East westbound and Tai Wong Street East before resuming its original routeing on Luard Road.

Notices will be put up by Hong Kong Tramways and related GMB operators to inform passengers of the above special arrangements.

Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas in Wan Chai South. Those heading for Admiralty and Central are advised to divert via Hennessy Road westbound or Gloucester Road westbound. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to use public transport as far as possible.

The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. The public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.

Details of the special traffic and transport arrangements are now available on the department's website (www.td.gov.hk).
