The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
The Fifth Legislative Council (LegCo) held its first meeting today (October 10) in the Chamber of the LegCo Complex. At the meeting, Members took the LegCo Oath one by one, followed by the election of the President. The two Members being nominated for the office of President, Mr Alan Leong and Mr Jasper Tsang, received 27 and 43 votes respectively. Mr Tsang was elected President of the Fifth LegCo.
Meanwhile, the LegCo House Committee and Finance Committee also held their first meetings today in Conference Room 1 of the LegCo Complex respectively for the election of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the two committees. Mr Andrew Leung and Mr Ronny Tong were elected respectively Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, and Mr Tommy Cheung and Ms Emily Lau were elected respectively Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Finance Committee.
