"Every Blood Donor is a Hero!" debuts
*************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

The new advertisement featuring the slogan "Every Blood Donor is a Hero!" of the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) will be launched in all local TV and radio stations this Friday (October 12). The pop band C AllStar made a pro bono appearance in the advertisement to recognise the blood donation heroes of the past 60 years and to appeal to the public to give blood. In addition to being aired on local TV and radio stations, the advertisement and some clips from its filming will also be available for viewing in the BTS website from October 12.

In order to be eligible for blood donation, one must be aged 16 to 60 (for donors aged 61 or above who have given blood in the past 12 months, the age limit is extended to 65), weigh more than 41 kilograms and be healthy. Males can give blood every three months whereas females can donate every four months; youngsters aged 16 and 17 must obtain parents' prior written consent for their donation and can return for another donation every six months.

The BTS hopes eligible donors will become blood donation heroes by either starting to give blood if they have not done so or continuing their regular blood donations so that the rising local demand for blood and blood products can be duly met.

For the locations and opening hours of the BTS donor centres, please call their hotline at 2710 1234 or visit the website at www.ha.org.hk/rcbts.
