SWD renders support to families affected by vessel collision incident

      The Social Welfare Department (SWD), together with other Government departments, will continue to provide assistance and support for the individuals and families affected by the vessel collision incident, an SWD spokesman said today (October 2). The SWD hotline provides round-the-clock service for individuals and families in need of emotional support, and those who require the service may call 2343 2255 any time for assistance.¡@The SWD has also liaised with Power Assets Holdings Limited and provide necessary emotional support for their staff and families.

      ¡§Subsequent to last night's emergency measures, over 70 social workers and clinical psychologists from the SWD were deployed to relevant hospitals and public mortuary to provide counselling services and follow up welfare needs for the injured and the affected families, including the families of the deceased¡¨.

      ¡§Medical social workers at hospitals and the Integrated Family Service Centres concerned will join forces to render necessary assistance to the injured and the affected families through a case management approach, with close follow-up in the areas of burial service, medical care, rehabilitation and long-term welfare-related arrangements¡¨, the spokesman said.

      TWGHs Emergency Relief Fund and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust also approached the SWD, which will offer financial assistance to the affected households to help them cope with special financial needs.

      The spokesman said that the department will continue to attend to the welfare needs of the affected families.
