Savvy software programmers have been putting public sector information, such as that related to population, transport, weather and public facilities, to good use since the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer made it available for free on its Data.One portal in 2011.
Mobile application designers Mr Alex Hung and Mr George So describe how they incorporated information about health-care facilities and traffic into easy-to-use apps that make it easy for users to find their way around the city - and more.
