The Customs and Excise yesterday (September 28) cracked down a transnational drug trafficking attempt and seized some 3 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated market value of $3.06 million at the Hong Kong International Airport and arrested a 54-year-old man.
Customs officers intercepted a man arriving from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last night for baggage examination and a tiger sculpture weighing about 3 kilograms was found from his suitcase. Examination later uncovered that the sculpture was made by a composite of wax and cocaine.
The man, who claimed to be a renovation worker, will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts on October 1.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
