Seminar on Hong Kong Scientists' Participation in National Science and Technology Development held successfully (with photos)

     The Seminar on Hong Kong Scientists' Participation in National Science and Technology Development was successfully held in Hong Kong today (September 28).

     The Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, Miss Janet Wong, and the Deputy Director-General, Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the State Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Mr Xu Hai, officiated at the seminar.

     With the rapid developments in the Mainland and the promulgation of the National 12th Five-Year Plan, there has been increasing and immense interest in Mainland policies and measures on the innovation and technology front.

     Miss Wong said, "Today's seminar focused on the various paths for Hong Kong to participate in Mainland-Hong Kong science and technology co-operation under the National 12th Five-Year Plan. Through the briefings by the speakers, more Hong Kong research institutes and personnel have been encouraged to participate in national science and technology programmes."

     Miss Wong spoke on Hong Kong's measures to promote innovation and technology development, in particular science and technology co-operation with the Mainland. This was followed by representatives from the MOST speaking on the State Science and Technology Awards, the State R&D Programmes, the National Science and Technology Programmes Expert Database, and the Partner State Key Laboratory Scheme.

     The seminar also featured a representative from the Chinese Academy of Sciences speaking on the academy's co-operation and exchanges with Hong Kong. And representatives from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology and the Science, Technology and Innovation Commission of Shenzhen Municipality spoke on Guangdong-Hong Kong co-operation and the latest developments of the Industry, Academic and Research Bases in Nanshan, Shenzhen, respectively.
