Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra to perform "A Dragon Soaring in the East"

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the concert "A Dragon Soaring in the East" by the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will be staged in October. This will be the first concert led by renowned conductor Ho Man-chuen since he joined the orchestra. To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, the orchestra will play a selection of oriental masterpieces, including the percussion piece and concert theme "A Dragon Soaring in the East" .

     Under the baton of principal conductor Ho Man-chuen, the orchestra will perform a series of Chinese music pieces including "Banquet at the Sichuan Court", "Nocturn", "The Silk Road", "The Legend of Shadier", "The Great Verdigris Bell", "A Dragon Soaring in the East", "Dragon" and "Burying the Flowers from Dream of the Red Chamber Suite" .

     The Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra was established in 1979 with the goal of developing Chinese music and enhancing cultural promotion. Since then the orchestra has collaborated with an array of music virtuosi including Kwan Nai-chung, Wang Fujian, Xiao Biayong, Wong On-yuen, Yu Qiwei and Wubulikasaimu. In addition to regularly participating in concerts presented by the LCSD, the orchestra has also performed in charity concerts for various organisations. The ensemble has also established close ties with the orchestras in Singapore, the United States, Australia and many Mainland provinces. Among various recordings by the orchestra, the piece "Fishermen's Song of the East Sea" won the Golden Disc Award.

     Ho Man-chuen received tuition in conducting from Xia Feiyun, and has participated in masterclasses held by Tang Muhai, Chen Zhaohuang and Peng Xiuwen. Ho has been the conductor of the Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra for 29 years and performed in the United States, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia and also various Mainland cities. Ho was formerly Music Officer of the Music Office of Hong Kong SAR Government and has nurtured numerous young musicians. Ho has conducted several orchestras in Hong Kong, and is currently an instructor at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and Resident Conductor at the Academy Chinese Orchestra. Ho joined the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra in May 2012 as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor.

     Presented by the LCSD, "A Dragon Soaring in the East" by the Hong Kong Music Lover Chinese Orchestra will be staged at 8pm, October 28 (Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $140, $110 and $80 are available at all URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
