SHA visits Kowloon City (with photo)
************************************

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, visited a new arrival family in Kowloon City this afternoon (September 27) and exchanged views with District Council members.

Mr Tsang visited the new arrival family, who live in a 50-year-old building, to better understand their living and study situation, as well as to see how they have adapted to the new environment and integrated into the community using support services tailor-made for new arrivals.

"The SAR Government cares very much about new arrivals and endeavours to provide assistance to facilitate their early adaptation to the environment. We have launched a series of initiatives to help them integrate into society," Mr Tsang said.

These initiatives include the District-based Integration Programme implemented by the Home Affairs Department (HAD), which provides a wide range of activities and adaptation courses for new arrivals. The HAD has also rolled out an Ambassador Scheme through non-governmental organisations, arranging persons with similar backgrounds as ambassadors to share with new arrivals their experiences and introduce them to various government services. In addition, the Community Care Fund has provided subsidies for new arrivals to take language courses and sit in language examinations.

Mr Tsang later met and exchanged views with members of the Kowloon City District Council.
