Pioneering Chinese director Meng Jinghui to present acclaimed comedy "Two Dogs" in October (with photos)
****************************************************

Directed by Meng Jinghui, who is famed for his visionary approach to drama, the experimental comedy "Two Dogs" will be staged in Hong Kong in October to offer a scintillating theatrical experience for local audiences.

Featuring two first-class young comic actors, Liu Xiaoye and Han Pengyi from the National Theatre of China, the uproarious show makes fun of the hottest current affairs and playfully reflects on the ways of the world, delivering a superb two-hour performance filled with applause and laughter.

"Two Dogs" is one of the programmes of the New Vision Arts Festival organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be staged on October 26 and 27 at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre.

A hybrid of Italian commedia dell'arte and traditional Chinese comedy, "Two Dogs" has been put together by an innovative young team of theatre and music enthusiasts. It is also the coolest, most challenging work yet from Meng Jinghui, a leading National Theatre of China director. Critically acclaimed, the show centres on two dogs that flee their village homes to pursue happiness and fulfilment in a city but are subsequently hit by reality.

As it is based on the most current social issues, such as fake Louis Vuitton goods, fake eggs, tainted milk powder, financial crises and more, the content delivered by the talented cast of improvisational artists is often subject to change. The result is a hilarious yet thought-provoking production that draws attention to and reflects on attitudes of modern life.

Dubbed "the king of studio theatre in China", Meng Jinghui is one of Asia's most influential experimental theatre directors today. Signature works including "Si Fan", "Accidental Death of an Anarchist", "Rhinoceros in Love" and "Amber" encompass a wide range of styles and are famous for their creativity and novelty. Through such productions, Meng has created a cultural phenomenon that has drawn in a new generation of city audiences and taken contemporary Chinese theatre to new heights.

"Two Dogs" performed by the National Theatre of China is presented in Putonghua with Chinese and English synopsis. The show will be staged on October 26 and 27 at 8pm, and also on October 27 at 3pm at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre. Tickets priced at $260, $200 and $130 are now available at URBTIX.

Half-price tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 and above, people with disabilities and their minders, and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Other booking discounts of up to 20 per cent are available.
