*******************************************************

The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, inspected a passing-out parade for 13 station officers, 56 firemen and 39 ambulancemen at the Fire Services Training School today (September 26).

Speaking at the parade, Mr Lai commended the fire and ambulance staff for their courage and professionalism under challenges.

"The FSD received over 2,000 calls for assistance during the passage of Severe Typhoon Vicente in July. The staff of the department served with determination and dedication during inclement weather, and handled various emergency incidents with strenuous efforts," Mr Lai said.

Mr Lai said the FSD would continue to recruit devoted personnel for the department in order to meet the growing demand for emergency services.

"To provide professional and comprehensive training to fire and ambulance staff, the construction works for the redevelopment of the Fire Services Training School at Tseung Kwan O are in progress for completion in October 2015," he said.

Mr Lai congratulated the graduates on their completion of stringent training, encouraged them to engage in continuous development and wished them all the best in fulfilling their commitment to serve the community.

The parade was followed by a demonstration of fire-fighting and rescue techniques by the graduates. The graduates have each successfully completed 26 weeks of training and will be posted to various fire stations and ambulance depots for on-the-job training to gain field experience.
