Secretary for Security visits Southern District (with photos)
******************************************************

The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, visited Southern District this morning (September 25). Mr Lai exchanged views with District Councillors and local students, and learned about the one-stop and diversified drug treatment and preventive education services provided by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) CROSS Centre, a counselling centre for psychotropic substance abusers on Hong Kong Island.

Accompanied by the District Officer (Southern), Ms Christine Wai, Mr Lai met some 20 Southern District Councillors at the District Council office, listened to their views on law and order matters and other community issues and explained government policies related to security matters.

Mr Lai then went to the Hong Kong True Light College at Ap Lei Chau and visited the anti-drug Smart Truck, which was parked at the school and promoting anti-drug messages.

The Smart Truck is the first of its kind in Hong Kong with an anti-drug theme and was developed by the TWGHs CROSS Centre. It parks at different secondary and primary schools on a roving basis to provide students with anti-drug education programmes and disseminates anti-drug messages to the public during festive seasons when people may easily fall prey to drug traps. It also aims to raise public awareness of the drug problem, in particular to enhance the vigilance and participation of parents.

Mr Lai chatted with students to learn more about their life as students and shared with them the importance of good health in their studies.

He expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by the District Council, the TWGHs CROSS Centre and Hong Kong True Light College in promoting anti-drug messages and preventive education and encouraged them to keep up their efforts.
