Traditional Cantonese "hard-bow" concert by local veterans
**********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department's Guangdong Music Series will present Cantonese Music in Hong Kong - A Concert of "Hard-bow" Ensemble in October. The concert will be performed by veteran local musicians and features a selection of "hard-bow" works from the traditional repertoire of Cantonese music.

During the concert, Ho Kang-ming will explain aspects of the music in Cantonese, while a group of veteran musicians including Yu Mau (suona, houguan, dizi), Wong Hon-keung (Ensemble Leaders on the drums), Tse Chi-ming and To Wing (erxian and tiqin) will lead up-and-coming musicians in playing the traditional Cantonese selections.

Most traditional Cantonese music features a hard-bow combination of erxian, zhu tiqin, flute, houguan and other ancient instruments, making the ensemble more robust and vigorous. This fascinating programme includes the ensemble masterpieces "Excerpts from The Eight Celestials Sending Their Birthday Wishes", "Wild Geese on the Sandbank", "Boarding the Fishing Boat", "An Ingot of Gold", "Song of the General" and "Selling Groceries". There will be also erxian, sanxian and yangqin solo performances for "An Enebriated Tune", "Butterflies Flying in Pairs" and "Dao-Chui-Lian" respectively.
