Appointment to Electoral Affairs Commission

     The Chief Executive has appointed Professor Fanny Cheung Mui-ching as a member of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) for a term of four years with effect from September 29, 2012 to September 28, 2016. The appointment was gazetted today (September 21).

     "We are pleased that Professor Fanny Cheung has accepted the appointment to serve on the EAC. Professor Cheung is Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Department of Psychology as well as Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her knowledge and experience will be of great help to the Commission in accomplishing its future tasks," a Government spokesman said.

     "We would also like to thank the outgoing member, Professor Andrew Chan Chi-fai, for his valuable contributions during his years of service," the spokesman added.

     The EAC is established under the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance. Its responsibilities include making recommendations on geographical constituency boundaries, and conducting and supervising elections. It also supervises the registration of electors and makes arrangements to ensure that the elections are conducted in an open, fair and honest manner.
