The following is issued on behalf of the Commission on Youth:

The Commission on Youth (COY) organised an exchange session with youths at the Youth Square today (September 19). The Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, attended the session and exchanged views with youths on the topic of "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education - Realising your aspirations through multiple pathways".

"With the concerted efforts of the education sector, active engagement of our students, and the support of the whole community, the first three-year cycle of the New Senior Secondary curriculum has been successfully implemented. Students not only benefited from subject learning, but also developed their personal qualities and attitudes such as responsibility, respect for others and interpersonal and collaborative skills through Other Learning Experiences, thus achieving whole-person development," Mr Ng said.

"The first Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination has also been smoothly administered. The first cohort of graduates has attained encouraging results in the HKDSE Examination. To cater for the diversity in students, the New Academic Structure (NAS) provides them with multiple pathways for further studies and employment. The graduates can start a new chapter in their learning life according to individual interests, abilities and aspirations," he said.

On the future development of the NAS, Mr Ng said, "The Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority will consolidate the youths' voices collected today and via other channels for further study and review to better implement the NAS."

The Chairman of the COY, Mr Bunny Chan, said the COY will continue to organise exchange sessions and invite government representatives to attend so that the youths will have more opportunities to exchange views with them on topics of concern.
