Renowned pianists Raymond Young and Ma Cong will collaborate in a two-piano concert in October.
To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the French composer Claude Debussy, the pianists will perform Debussy's "Prˆmlude ˆj l'aprˆos-midi d'un faune" and "Lindaraja". They will also play Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" Suite, Piazzolla's "3 Tangos", Johan Strauss II's "The Blue Danube Waltz" (after Arabesque by Schulz-Evler) and Liszt's "Mephisto Waltz".
The first Hong Kong pianist to be awarded the Government of Austria's highest scholarship, Raymond Young graduated with twin Master of Arts degrees in performance and accompaniment from the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he lived for over a decade. In recognition of his achievements and numerous recommendations, he was also granted Austrian citizenship. Young has won prizes at many international competitions, including the International Piano Competition in Rome, Italy and the Braunschweig Classix Festival in Germany, and performed at numerous concerts throughout Europe, Asia and North America over the years, winning him great acclaim.
Following his graduation from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Ma Cong furthered his studies at the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. He has won numerous prizes, including the Singapore Rolex Performance Award and the Mozart Bicentenary Piano Competition of Asia. Ma has given recitals in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, Korea, Singapore, the Mainland, Macao and Hong Kong, and has also performed as soloist with many international and local orchestras.
"Two-Piano Concert by Raymond Young and Ma Cong" is part of the Debussy Year celebration programme presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It will be held at 8pm on October 19 (Friday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $110 and $160 are now available at URBTIX outlets, on the Internet and by credit card telephone booking. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 25 per cent is offered for the "Our Music Talents" booking package.
