The Mississauga Board of Chinese Professionals and Businesses (CPB) today (September 14, Mississauga time) announced that this year's 14th annual Phoenix Ball, with "Rediscover Hong Kong" as the theme, will be held at the International Centre in Mississauga on October 13 (Saturday).

Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Toronto, Miss Gloria Lo and the Honourary Chair of the Phoenix Ball 2012, said at a press conference that this prestigious gala is a good opportunity to share with Canada the vision of having a cleaner, greener and sustainable environment for the global village while pursuing economic growth and development.

"Greening and business or economic developments are not mutually exclusive," said Miss Lo.  "Hong Kong's greening agenda means new business opportunities when we find ways to meet our various greening objectives and targets.  In fact, environmental industry is among the six new growth sectors that Hong Kong wants to develop.  Our green agenda is pursued through government policies, incentives and investments to promote greater energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality and have more efficient waste treatment."

"With 'Rediscover Hong Kong' as the gala theme, we will present to all our guests a night full of fun and exciting Hong Kong experience through the reception, fine cuisine, spectacular entertainment featuring soprano Manting Chan and pianist Phoebus Chan from Hong Kong, and live and silent auctions, as we celebrate the growing success and continuous discovery of all that Hong Kong offers,กจ said the co-chairs of the gala, Head of HSBC Ontario Branch Network, Mr David Kuo, and a CPB Director, Mrs Lily Van.

The Toronto 'Milk Tea King', Mr Harvey Lin, who was crowned last month at the annual International Milk Tea Competition in Hong Kong, will brew milk tea at the Phoenix Ball, offering the guests a taste of his Hong Kong style, bold and complex, but buttery smooth milk tea.กจ

The Phoenix Ball has been one of the major fundraising events in Ontario since 1999.  In the last 13 years, CPB has raised and donated over one million dollars to many charities and organisations to help various worthwhile causes. This year's Phoenix Ball also serves as a celebration of the 15th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

'The Phoenix Ball is an important event in our calendar and one of the largest Chinese Canadian sponsored event in Mississauga," said CPB Chair Mr Albert Wong.  "The net proceeds raised from the gala this year will be donated towards Cancer Care at The Credit Valley Hospital and Trillium Health Centre as well as Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care in Mississauga.  Your generous support will enable these recipients to make a difference to the community."
