The Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware has launched the "2013 Tea Ware by Hong Kong Potters" competition, which is open to ceramic artists and students. The competition aims to promote creativity in the art of making pottery tea ware and foster a tea drinking culture in Hong Kong. Selected works will be put on display in an exhibition to be held next year at the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware.
Works submitted should be functional and creative, and be based on the theme of contemporary tea ware or tea- drinking-related ware. Only fired ceramic ware, which can be pottery or porcelain, glazed or unglazed, is accepted. The range of works possible includes teapots, teacups, cup stands, saucers, water boilers, ewers, tea caddies and fresh water jars. Also, submitted works should be original ceramic creations hand-made by the entrants not more than two years before the date of entry, and should not have been awarded previously by any institution or organisation nor donated or sold to any person, company, institution or organisation.
The competition has a School Category as well as an Open Category. Each entrant in the Open Category may submit a maximum of three entries, while a maximum of six entries from each school can be submitted under the School Category. Each entry can be a single item or a set.
The judges will consider the originality, creativity, technical competence and functionality of each entry when selecting works to be awarded first, second and third prizes in both categories, and a number of prizes for excellence will be also awarded to the winners of the Open Category. The selected works will be showcased in an exhibition entitled "2013 Tea Ware by Hong Kong Potters" to offer members of the public an opportunity to appreciate the works of local potters.
Entries for the School Category should be submitted to the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre on April 4 or April 5, 2013, between 10.30am and 4.45pm.
Entries for the Open Category should be submitted to the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware on April 6 or April 7, 2013, between 10.30am and 4.45pm. Entries should be submitted together with filled-in entry forms and individual labels.
