Forty EPD convictions in August

Forty convictions were recorded last month (August) for breaches of legislation enforced by the Environmental Protection Department.
Twelve of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 14 were under the Noise Control Ordinance, one was under the Ozone Layer Protection Ordinance, 10 were under the Waste Disposal Ordinance and three were under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.
The heaviest fine in August was $20,000, assessed against a company that imported controlled waste without a permit.
