CE welcomes return of Hong Kong, China Delegation from London 2012 Paralympic Games (with photos)

     In honour of the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the London 2012 Paralympic Games on their triumphant return from the Games, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government hosted a welcome home ceremony at the Hong Kong International Airport today (September 11).

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, officiated at the ceremony and presented certificates of appreciation to the Hong Kong athletes in recognition of their remarkable results in the London Paralympic Games.

     Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Leung welcomed the return of the athletes and extended his warmest congratulations on their outstanding performance. He also praised them for their efforts to overcome challenges and to break through limits, as well as for the high morale they displayed at the Games, which embodied the spirit of "Inspire a Generation" - the official motto for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

     He called on different sectors of the community to continuously support the development of disability sports and encourage athletes with disabilities to participate in international competitions and develop their potential.

     The London 2012 Paralympic Games opened on August 29 and were concluded on September 9. A total of 28 Hong Kong athletes took part in seven competition events at the Games, namely athletics, boccia, equestrian sport, shooting, swimming, table tennis and wheelchair fencing.

     After fierce contests, the Hong Kong delegation fetched a total of 12 medals, comprising three gold, three silver and six bronze.

     Also greeting the athletes at today's ceremony were the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing; the Acting Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Bobby Cheng; the President of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled (HKPC&SAPD), Dr York Chow; and the Chairperson of the HKPC&SAPD, Mrs Jenny Fung.
