SCED to attend China-Eurasia Expo in Xinjiang and APEC Ministerial Meeting in Russia

     The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, will leave for Urumqi, Xinjiang tomorrow (September 1) to attend the 2nd China-Eurasia Expo, to be held on September 2. He will then depart for Vladivostok, Russia to attend the 24th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting on September 5 and 6.

     In Urumqi, Mr So will attend the opening of the 2nd China-Eurasia Expo and the 2nd China-Eurasia Forum on Economic Development and Co-operation.

     At the APEC Ministerial Meeting, Mr So and ministers will discuss the four priorities for APEC this year. They are trade and investment liberalisation, regional economic integration; strengthening food security; establishing reliable supply chains; and intensive co-operation to foster innovative growth.

     Mr So will also accompany the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, to attend the APEC CEO Summit on September 7 and 8.

     On behalf of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr So will sign a Free Trade Agreement between Hong Kong and Chile with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Mr Alfredo Moreno, on September 7. The signing ceremony will be witnessed by the Chief Executive.

     Mr So will also hold meetings with his ministerial counterparts to exchange views on bilateral trade relations and issues of mutual concern on the sidelines of the APEC meeting.

     Mr So will return to Hong Kong on September 8.
