Police officers issued a total of 557 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 35 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during an operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (August 20) and a total of 269 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 423 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 134 for other traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1,779 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July this year, of which 586 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 28.3 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
