Three men arrested for possession of child pornography

     Police arrested three men on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon in an operation codenamed "Pinefield" to combat child pornography this morning (August 16).

     Acting on intelligence from an overseas law enforcement agency as well as those developed by Hong Kong Police, officers of the Commercial Crime Bureau, together with the Regional Crime Units of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon West and the New Territories North, conducted an operation and raided a number of premises in Hong Kong.

     The three men, aged between 48 and 72, were arrested for possession of child pornography. In the operation, Police seized a computer, a number of DVDs and hard disks, in which child pornography photos and videos were found. All arrested persons were released on bail pending further investigation.

     Initial investigation revealed that the arrested persons bought or downloaded the child pornographic materials from overseas websites.

     ˇ§For any person convicted under Chapter 579 of ˇĄThe Prevention of Child Pornography Ordinanceˇ¦, the heaviest penalty is a two million dollars fine and imprisonment for eight years,ˇ¨ a Police spokesperson said.

     Police will maintain close co-operation with overseas law enforcement agencies against child pornography and take zero tolerance against child pornography and maintains strong enforcement action against this type of crime.
