Wounding case in Central reclassified as murder

     Police today (August 9) reclassified a wounding case in Central occurred on August 5 as murder.

     At about 10.20pm on that day, Police received a report that a 49-year-old Filipino man collapsed after being assaulted by three men at the open space outside the City Hall in Central.

     The 49-year-old man was taken to Queen Mary Hospital for medical treatment and was subsequently certified dead at 2.45pm today. A post-mortem examination will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of his death.

     Police arrested three Filipino men aged between 31 and 47 in connection with the case on August 7 and 8 respectively.

     The 31-year-old man has been charged and will appear in Eastern Magistrates Courts tomorrow (August 10) while the other two arrested men are still being detained for further enquiries.

     Active investigations by the Regional Crime Unit of Hong Kong Island are under way.
