They officiated at the camp¡¦s launching ceremony to call on youngsters to help Police combat crime and promote anti-drug messages. They also toured around the camp, watching JPC members participating in various activities including tree climbing, rope course and war game with anti-gambling theme.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Lai pointed out that both the overall crime rate and serious drug offences involving young people showed a continued declining trend, with a decrease of 13 per cent and 14 per cent respectively in the first six months this year when compared with the same period of last year.

Mr Lai commended JPC for nurturing positive values among young people and equipped them with leadership skill and knowledge of Police work, so that they could join hands with the Police to fight against crime. He hoped that young people could spread anti-crime and anti-drug messages to their family members, friends and classmates.

Organised by the Police, the annual summer camp aims to enhance JPC members' awareness of crimes and drug abuse, and to promote healthy living styles. These messages are disseminated to the campers through seminars, game competitions and a variety of activities including handcrafts as well as land and water sports activities.

Some 1 800 JPC members take part in this year's camp from August 7 to August 10.
