Woman fined for illegal club operation
**************************************

A woman was fined $11,500 at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (August 7) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The court heard that in December last year, officers from the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department inspected a club in Elgin Street, Central, which had been operating with a certificate of compliance (CoC). During the investigation, OLA officers found that the actual layout of the club had deviated from the registered drawings. Furthermore, there were non-members who patronised the club and the club staff could not show the membership registers upon OLA officers' request. Conditions 18, 19 and 20 of the CoC were breached.

The woman, being the CoC holder, was charged with contravening section 21(2) of the Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department reminded all CoC holders to comply with the conditions as stipulated therein. Enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
