Joy and harmony in public housing estates to celebrate anniversary of HKSAR (with photos)
*******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, today (August 4) officiated at a ceremony at Upper Ngau Tau Kok Estate, Kowloon, to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

Professor Cheung, representatives of the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) and representatives of public rental housing (PRH) residents added the final touches to a giant painting that was an amalgamation of about 160 smaller masterpieces created in PRH estates, marking the grand finale of the residents' mass creativity project.

Professor Cheung thanked residents for their great support. "The Giant Painting could not have been a success if not for the enthusiastic participation of our residents and Housing Department staff. The project is not only an example of the active involvement and co-operation between the residents and staff, but also reflects the strong partnership between them," he said.

Professor Cheung said that the HA in recent years had worked hard to strengthen residents' sense of belonging to the estate and the community. With the help of the Estate Management Advisory Committees, various activities like seminars and carnivals have been organised to promote care among family members, neighbours and the community and to facilitate harmonious living in PRH, and in so doing, social cohesion and stability were enhanced. The HA will continue to devote effort to this area of work.
