Voluntary Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme extended to induction cookers
*********************************************************

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (July 24) extended the voluntary Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme (EELS) to cover induction cookers.

The department is inviting manufacturers, importers and local agents of induction cookers to apply for energy labels under the voluntary EELS. To qualify for this type of label, the product should meet the energy efficiency and performance requirements of the scheme.

With the inclusion of induction cookers, there are now 20 types of household and office appliances covered by the voluntary EELS, which was introduced in 1995 by the EMSD. In addition, a mandatory EELS has been introduced since 2009 and there are currently five types of household appliances under the mandatory EELS.

The EELS aims to help consumers select more energy-efficient products, increase public awareness of the importance of using energy-efficient products, encourage manufacturers and product suppliers to market more energy-efficient products and achieve actual energy savings. With the energy labels, consumers can make informed choices to help the environment by choosing energy-efficient products.

Information about the EELS is available at the EMSD homepage (www.emsd.gov.hk). Enquiries about the extension of the voluntary EELS can be made by post to the Energy Efficiency Office of the EMSD at 3 Kai Shing Street, Kowloon, by telephone at 2808 3465 or by email to eepublic@emsd.gov.hk.
