The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered two restaurants, one in Yuen Long and another one in Kwai Chung in the New Territories, to suspend business for 14 days.
The operators repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation by failing to store open food properly in the premises and illegally extending the food business area.
The restaurants, Chung Hing Restaurant and "Jumbo Delicacy", were ordered to suspend business from today (July 24) to August 6.
Chung Hing Restaurant is located on the ground floor and cockloft at 44 Fook Tak Street in Yuen Long. "Jumbo Delicacy" is at Shop A11 on the ground floor of Kwai Chung Centre at 100-102 Kwai Hing Road in Kwai Chung.
"Two convictions for failing to store open food properly in the premises were recorded against Chung Hing Restaurant in November 2010 and October last year. A total fine of $6,000 was levied by the court and 15 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said.
As for "Jumbo Delicacy", two convictions for illegal extension of the food business area were recorded between the end of last year and this April. A $3,800 fine was levied and 30 demerit points were registered against the licensee.
"The contraventions resulted in the 14-day business suspension for both restaurants," the spokesman said.
The licensees of both restaurants had a record of breaching the Food Business Regulation between 2009 and 2011, leading to business suspension for seven days in May last year and this January after demerit points were registered against them.
The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the Food Business Regulation or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.
