To tie in with the exhibition "The Majesty of All Under Heaven: The Eternal Realm of China's First Emperor", which will open next week, the Hong Kong Museum of History has invited China's first 3D artist, Mr Qi Xinghua, to specially design and create a large 3D painting featuring the Qin terracotta army pit, offering visitors a virtual reality experience of the stunning scene.
Measuring 12 metres long and 12m wide, this 3D painting will be displayed at the lower piazza of the Hong Kong Museum of History during the exhibition period. The installation work of the painting was finished today (July 19).
The painting was specially designed and created by Mr Qi for the exhibition "The Majesty of All Under Heaven: The Eternal Realm of China's First Emperor". It vividly depicts the First Emperor's royal chariot breaking through the ground, alongside a company of his terracotta warriors with their weapons drawn. With amazing visual effects, the painting enables visitors to feel as if they are being taken on a journey to witness this magnificent scene and its mighty force.
Mr Qi was the first artist to bring Western 3D painting to China. He began his study of 3D drawing techniques in 2002, and has created a number of amazing 3D paintings that have broken Guinness World Records for 3D painting. His works include a 3D painting on the terracotta warriors and horses of Qin Shihuang, which is in the collection of the Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang.
The exhibition "The Majesty of All Under Heaven: The Eternal Realm of China's First Emperor" is jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau, and co-organised by the Hong Kong Museum of History and the Shaanxi Cultural Heritage Promotion Center. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust is the sole sponsor of the exhibition. It is one of the highlight programmes celebrating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
The exhibition will run from July 25 until November 26 at the Hong Kong Museum of History, showcasing 120 sets of invaluable cultural relics, allowing visitors to take a closer look at the national-treasure-grade terracotta warriors and other invaluable relics from the Qin dynasty.
Advance tickets for this exhibition are being put on sale in three phases. More than 19,500 tickets have been sold since the first phase of tickets went on sale on July 9 (for dates from July 25 to September 2). The second phase of ticket sales will start on August 20 (for dates from September 3 to October 14), and the third phase will start on September 24 (for dates from October 15 to November 26).

The exhibition will be open daily from 9am to 10.30pm, with 17 scheduled viewing sessions. Each session will last one and a half hours and accommodate 230 visitors. The first session will start at 9am while the last admission will be at 9pm. Aside from public holidays, the exhibition gallery will be closed on Tuesdays, the museum's rest day.
Admission to the exhibition is $10 per session for all visitors. Children under 4 years old are entitled to free admission when accompanied by an adult. As it is a special exhibition, free admission on Wednesdays and concession tickets are not applicable.
