Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases in Tuen Mun Hospital
************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

Following an earlier announcement that some patients have been infected with Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE), a Tuen Mun Hospital spokesperson gave the following update today (July 17):

In accordance with prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital conducted screening and found two more male patients (aged 84 and 88) to be carriers of VRE. One of them has been transferred to an isolation ward for further treatment and is in stable condition. The other patient was discharged last Sunday, and the hospital has contacted the patient's relative to explain the necessary infection control precautions.

Restricted visiting to the ward has been imposed. The hospital has stepped up the infection control measures according to established guidelines and is closely monitoring patients' health.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for follow-up.
