Police officers issued a total of 701 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 52 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (July 16).
The operation concluded at 7pm today and a total of 280 officers from Traffic, Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 529 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 172 for other traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1,542 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to June this year, of which 518 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 28.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
