The spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (July 16):
Four patients (aged 62 to 78) and one staff member of a female psychiatric ward at PYNEH have presented with symptoms compatible with scabies since June 27. One of them was confirmed as having scabies after laboratory examination. All patients concerned are being treated under isolation and are in stable condition. The staff member concerned has recovered and resumed duty.
Infection control measures have already been stepped up in accordance with the established guidelines. All other patients and staff members in the ward are under close surveillance.
The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
