The Government today (July 13) announced that Professor Raymond So Wai-man has been appointed as Chairman of the Energy Advisory Committee (the Committee), while 21 community personalities have been appointed as members. The appointments are for a term of two years with effect from July 15, 2012 and will be published in the Gazette next Friday (July 20).
The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, welcomed Professor So as be Chairman of the Committee. "Professor So has been serving as a member of the Committee since 2010. He has the relevant expertise and leadership. Under his chairmanship, the Committee will certainly be able to continue providing the Government with comprehensive advice on energy policy matters," said Mr Wong.
Mr Wong also expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Chairman, Mr Edmund Leung Kwong-ho, and other members of the committee for their contributions. "Over the past six years, Mr Leung has led the work of the committee in tendering invaluable advice to the Government, which helps to ensure that the energy supply in Hong Kong can strike a balance among the policy objectives of safety, reliability, reasonable price and environmental protection. I am most grateful to Mr Leung for his contributions," he said.
The Committee advises the Government on energy policy, including policy matters concerning energy supply and demand, energy conservation and efficiency, and other related matters.
