Tender invitation for implementation of Guangdong Scheme
********************************************************

The Social Welfare Department (SWD) today (July 13) invited tenderers for appointment as an SWD agent for a new Guangdong Scheme under the Social Security Allowance Scheme.

A spokesman for the SWD said, "In view of the unique ties between Hong Kong and Guangdong, the Government announced that a Guangdong Scheme would be introduced so that eligible Hong Kong elderly people who choose to reside in Guangdong can receive a full-year Old Age Allowance without the need to come back to Hong Kong each year.

"To support the scheme participants in Guangdong, the SWD will appoint an agent to provide services to those elderly people, such as by assisting them to complete the case review procedures required for receiving the allowance continuously."

The spokesman added, "In principle, all applicants for the Guangdong Scheme will have to complete the application procedures in person in Hong Kong. However, we will make special arrangements for those unfit to travel back to Hong Kong for health reasons with documentary proof by assigning the agent to help them complete the application procedures."

Tenders must be placed in the Government Secretariat Tender Box situated on the Ground Floor, East Wing, Central Government Offices, 2 Tim Mei Avenue, Tamar, Hong Kong. The tender invitation will close at noon on August 24 (Friday).

Details of the tender exercise are available at the SWD website (www.swd.gov.hk). The SWD will organise a briefing session for prospective tenderers. For enquiries, please contact the Social Security Branch of the SWD at 2892 5532 or through email at css6@swd.gov.hk.
