Transcript of remarks by SCED on Olympic Games broadcast
********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, at a media session after attending the meeting of the Legislative Council Panel on Information Technology and Broadcasting today (July 10):

Reporter: I was just going to ask if you heard anything else about the negotiation going on with Geneva with the TV coverage of the Olympics?

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development: I will repeat what I have just said in Chinese. Last week, I had requested meeting separately with the three TV stations' top management. I had the opportunity of speaking with them, but the content of our meetings was kept confidential in order that I would understand quite fully what is the latest development. And since then, I am quite encouraged to see that they have stepped up communication with each other and I am hopeful that a satisfactory resolution would be made that we could watch the Olympic Games in free TV platform. And now, negotiation is still going on, because it is commercial negotiation. The Government does not have a role to interfere with commercial negotiation. But I am hopeful that with their communication, a satisfactory resolution would be made.  As soon as there is a way forward, I am sure that a speedy announcement would be made to the public. Thank you.
