ND launches anti-drug website
*****************************

To make good use of the Internet and social media platforms to promote anti-drug messages, the Narcotics Division (ND) of the Security Bureau and the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN), in partnership with Yahoo! Hong Kong, today (July 9) launched an anti-drug website, www.anti-drugheroes.hk .

The website is one of the core projects of 2012's territory-wide campaign against youth drug abuse. The campaign aims to enrich knowledge among youngsters and the public of the harmful effects of drugs and raise awareness in the community, particularly among parents and neighbours, of the hidden drug abuse problem with a view to encouraging them to play an active role in the prevention of youth drug abuse.

The highlight of the website is an interactive online drama series, "Anti-drug Heroes", which targets young people and seeks to enhance their knowledge of drug harm and educate them on drug refusal skills through an adventure story in an interesting and interactive way.

New episodes of the six-episode drama series "Anti-drug Heroes" will be uploaded to the anti-drug website and the social media platform YouTube every two weeks starting today. The story features the adventure of a secondary school student who accidentally travels to ancient Wulin by activating a time machine, and tells of how, using the unique skills taught by a wushu master, he smashes a drug trafficking syndicate luring young people to take drugs.

An interactive game is incorporated into each episode to let netizens have a better understanding of the content of the story. Netizens can also join quiz games about the drama series and drug information to win prizes and exchange views on the story at the "Anti-drug Heroes" drama series fan page on Facebook.

To encourage youth participation in the anti-drug activity, more than 30 young people were recruited by ND, ACAN and Yahoo! Hong Kong to perform in the drama series, with a view to raising their self-confidence and enhancing their determination in saying no to drugs.

Apart from being broadcast on the Internet, the drama series will be distributed on DVD to all secondary schools in Hong Kong. A sharing session will be held by ND, ACAN and Yahoo! Hong Kong in which actors from the drama, a social worker and a rehabilitated drug abuser will talk about drug harm, and the rehabilitated drug abuser will also share experience in quitting drugs.

In addition to the above-mentioned drama series, three videos specially made for parents and the public have also been uploaded to the campaign website to raise public awareness of the problem of young drug abusers taking drugs at home or at friends' gatherings, and to enhance their knowledge of the ways to prevent and identify youth drug abuse.

The campaign website also carries drug-related information and interviews with different people including rehabilitated drug abusers and their family members, a doctor, social workers and celebrities to share experiences, with a view to enhancing the public's understanding of the drug problem.
