Officers of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) stopped a remand person from attempting self-harm at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (July 7) evening.
The man, aged 53, tied a bed sheet around his neck in the hospital inside the centre. He was stopped immediately and found conscious. Staff later sent him to a public hospital for treatment and would arrange a clinical psychologist to follow up the case.
"We are committed to providing a secure, safe, humane, decent and healthy environment for people in custody," a CSD spokesperson said.
The man was remanded at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre since July 4 under the theft offence.
