Hong Kong Customs seized cocaine at airport (with photo)

     Hong Kong Customs officers yesterday (July 3) intercepted a foreign male passenger arriving from São Paulo, Brazil at the Customs Arrival Hall of Hong Kong International Airport and seized about 1.86 kilogrammes of cocaine. The drugs were concealed inside a specially made underpants and a pair of shoes he was wearing with an estimated market value of about $2.17 million.

     The arrestee, aged 63-year-old, claimed to be a hawker. He will be charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court tomorrow (July 5).

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
