*******************************************************

The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, today (July 3), on the first working day in her new post, paid a courtesy call on the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, at the Court of Final Appeal building.  Another meeting was lined up for Mrs Lam to meet the Chairman of the House Committee of the Legislative Council, Ms Miriam Lau, and the Deputy Chairman, Mr Fred Li.

At the meeting with the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mrs Lam reiterated that as Chief Secretary for Administration, safeguarding the core values of Hong Kong is an important principle that she will uphold. Mrs Lam was also concerned about the progress of restoration work at the former Legislative Council Building, for early relocation of the Court of Final Appeal.

In addition, Mrs Lam told the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee that the Chief Executive has stressed the importance of the relationship between the legislature and the executive. The Chief Executive asked Mrs Lam to relay the message to the Chairman of the House Committee that the Chief Executive is prepared to attend the question-and-answer session in the Legislative Council before the end of the current session so that the Chief Executive can introduce his visions for governance and respond to questions raised by members about which the Council and the public are most concerned.
